To ensure the best outcomes from your in-clinic treatments, it’s important to follow a few pre- and post-care guidelines. These steps help minimize risks and enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. Here’s everything you need to know.
1 Week Before Treatment
To prepare your skin and body for the procedure, follow these guidelines:
- Avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin and ibuprofen unless specifically prescribed by your doctor. These can increase the risk of bruising.
- Steer clear of supplements such as St. John’s Wort, Ginkgo biloba, primrose oil, garlic, ginseng, and Vitamin E. These can also impact your treatment.
2 Days Before Treatment
Two days prior to your appointment, it’s crucial to avoid certain skincare products and hair removal treatments:
- Avoid topical products such as Retinol, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, or any “anti-aging” treatments. These can irritate your skin and interfere with the treatment process.
- Don’t wax, bleach, tweeze, or use hair removal creams on the area you intend to treat. This can cause unnecessary irritation.
24 Hours Before Treatment
To ensure your skin is in the best condition for the procedure:
- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before the treatment. Alcohol can increase the risk of bruising and affect your treatment results.
Day of Treatment
On the day of your procedure, keep things simple:
- Arrive makeup-free for your appointment. I will only be removing it to ensure a clean, sterile environment.
General Advice
Some individuals may have specific needs or risks related to injectable treatments:
- If you have a history of facial cold sores, there’s a risk that the treatment could trigger another outbreak. Please inform us, and we may recommend antiviral medication prior to your appointment.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding? Injectable treatments are not suitable during this time. Additionally, if you have allergies to any ingredients or suffer from neurological disorders, please let us know. We want to ensure your safety and well-being.
Post-Treatment Care
Your aftercare is just as important as preparation for the treatment. Here’s what you should do in the first 48 hours:
6-12 Hours After Treatment:
- Avoid touching the treated areas and refrain from applying makeup or skincare products directly to the treatment sites.
- Keep the skin clean and gentle to prevent any infections or irritation.
12-24 Hours After Treatment:
- Do not consume alcohol or take over-the-counter blood thinners such as aspirin and ibuprofen. These can increase bruising and prolong healing.
- After injectable treatments, avoid using active ingredients like retinoids or exfoliating acids in your skincare routine.
24-48 Hours After Treatment:
- For microneedling or chemical peels, do not apply makeup or use active skincare ingredients such as retinoids or exfoliating acids. Some treatments may require you to avoid these for longer than 48 hours, so be sure to check with your treating doctor for specific instructions.
